Brandon M. Herbert is an author, artist, musician, entrepreneur, and voracious biblioholic. He was born a third generation Colorado native, but his heart and soul belong to the Pacific Northwest where he resides in the Seattle area with his wife.
He wrote his first short story in fifth grade, and hasn’t stopped since. He enjoys writing Urban Fantasy, both for Young Adults (Walking Wolf Road, The Wild) and Horror fans (World of Shadows, Tales of the Underground). He is a passionate wolf supporter, and has spent most of his life researching the history, mythology, and reality of werewolves, shapeshifters, and therianthropy. Brandon has a degree is Graphic Design and plays guitar when he’s not kayaking Puget Sound or quaffing inhuman quantities of coffee.
Ironically, back in early grade school, Brandon was borderline illiterate, and so far behind his classmates reading level that they put him in a special program to catch up. With a little help from his parents (and some classic literature like The Call of the Wild, The War of the Worlds, and The Swiss Family Robinson), it worked a little too well, and by fourth grade he was a voracious biblioholic with an adult reading level. Brandon wrote his first short stories in fifth grade (which he hopes will never see the light of day), and hasn’t stopped since.
During high school, Brandon contributed articles and illustrations for the Skyline Flashes newspaper, and developed his writing chops through Anime fan-fictions he co-wrote with his friends (which should also never see the light of day). After graduation, Brandon began sparring with book-length projects, but was stymied and sabotaged at every turn by his A.D.D.
Walking Wolf Road
In order to find a way to overcome his blocks, Brandon began writing a fictionalized autobiography to force himself to focus a single project through to completion. By developing writing ‘soundtracks’ and forcing himself to post a new chapter on his blog every full moon and holiday, he forced himself to stay productive and overcome the demons in his head.
At first, Brandon self-published a test release of W.W.R. that moved almost 2,000 units and ranked at #35 on the Amazon.com Young Adult SciFi/Fantasy Bestseller List. Following this trial, Brandon conducted significant revision and editing, and Walking Wolf Road was officially published by Wolfgate Productions LLC on September 9th, 2014. However, since he was in school full time, W.W.R. sat in stasis while Brandon finishing his Graphic Design degree. Walking Wolf Road was then re-released in August of 2016 with refined cover art and higher quality eBooks on all platforms.
Brandon is currently working on Bearing Raven’s Mark (Book 2 of the Wolf Road Chronicles), Of Wolf and Man (Book 1 of the World of Shadows trilogy), and Tertiary (Book 1 of the Tertiary trilogy). Subscribe to Brandon’s newsletter or follow him on social media for news about upcoming new releases and special promotions, including possibly becoming a character in one of these books.
Brandon’s history with art began very early on, watching The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross before preschool, and over time he would go on to win over a dozen awards for both art and design. In High School, Brandon taught himself HTML and CSS, and received certification from the American Design & Drafting Association, and took 3rd Place in the 2003 National A.D.D.A. Design & Drafting contest for Electrical Engineering. He has studied Computer Science at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, and International Business at Front Range Community College in Westminster, CO.
Brandon has been working as a freelance designer since he was in high school; creating logos, banners, and even industrial design schematics. With encouragement from his wife, he finally decided to pursue his passion for visual design full time, and completed his Associates of Arts and Sciences degree in Graphic Design at Shoreline Community College in Seattle, WA. where he graduated with honors in 2016.
Brandon is particularly interested in branding and identity, motion graphics, UX/UI design, and page layout. He in currently seeking an internship to further hone his skills, while writing and completing freelance graphic design work for Wolfgate Productions LLC.

Brandon grew up in a musically rich household; his father was a classical organist who love baroque composers like J.S. Bach, and his mother sang soprano and listened to acoustic rock and musicals. So, naturally, he fell hopelessly in love with EDM and heavy metal. Brandon started his own Mobile DJ business in high school, but transitioned into playing guitar and bass. In 2006, Brandon was auditioned and hired by an upcoming dual-genre metal/acoustic ban in Seattle WA. named Stabbingback. He played rhythm guitar and backing vocals for the band from 2006 to the end of 2008 when he moved back to Colorado due to family issues.
Even before he joined Stabbingback, Brandon had been writing and recording music for his own project, VolkoV. His goal was to combine his favorite genres of music into an aural shapeshifter of sorts, combining elements of ethnic, industrial, hard rock, melodic heavy metal, hard house, and classical music. On the rare days when he’s not busy writing, editing, or designing; he works on recordings for VolkoV, including music written to accompany his novels.
Recordings and demos can be heard on VolkoV’s Facebook page.
